According to the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) Poland has been classified as an iodine deficient area. Following recommendation of the Polish Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders in 1996/1997 mandatory iodization of household salt with 30 +/- 10 mg KI/kg was introduced.
